The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Theodore V. “Bud” Wensel
Seen here in a turn-of-the-century Wensel family photograph (far right hand side), Uncle Bud was a most colorful character.
A graduate of Centre College in Kentucky, Bud received a degree in poetry. He made fine public speeches but was not much of a businessman. He loved to brag about his “railroad”, but he had to do his bragging out of town. The locals knew the truth - the railroad was all of 300 ft. long, used for transporting cotton from the riverfront to the warehouse!
Consequently, when the Great Depression hit, Bud was ill-prepared and lost the family business. He must have enjoyed the family building, however, because Bud’s ghost still makes the occasional appearance.
It is in his honor for which we name our line of spices.
